They say all good things must come to an end, and unfortunately that’s exactly what happened to Jimmy D’s Supercross season at Daytona.
Tough starts have been a consistent hurdle for the #47 JGR Suzuki rider in 2018, and Daytona was unfortunately no different. Qualifying 8th into the night show, Decotis jumped off the gate in his heat to a back of the pack start, and immediately began a laborious charge to the front on the exceptionally challenging Daytona track. Luckily, Jimmy picked off back-runners quickly and made his way into qualifying position, settling in eighth by the checkered flag.
The stage was set for the main. With the Masshole Bike Week squad shouting their Decotis war-cry from the stands, Jimmy D was looking to return to the podium in front of friends and family at Daytona.
But, life sometimes has other plans. After a midpack start, Jimmy set off on his charge to the front. Unfortunately, early in the race while approaching the finish line on a fast, tricky rhythm, a small miscue sent him to the dirt, and hard. Jimmy was unable to return to the race, and instead took a trip to the local hospital, where he was found to have fractured his L2 and L3 vertebrae and some ribs. Considering the severity of the wreck, Jimmy came out lucky. He’s on his feet and his road to recovery starts straight away. Though his Supercross season must come to an early end, Jimmy D now begins prep for the outdoors to come out fit and strong for some 30+2s.
